GLOBAL JAZZWOMEN is an intiative, a movement, a collaboration. There ARE REGULAR EVENTS AND FESTIVALS
- SEE WHAT WE DO AND WHERE IN THE WORLD IT HAPPENS!
REVA’s Global JazzWomen Hang is a weekly zoom community hosting women jazz musicians from around the world. Incubated within REVA, it’s been hosted by the bassist, educator, and community activist from South Africa, Sibongile Buda - for nearly 5 years now. GJWHang became the seed for the Festival. The First Global JazzWomen Festival took place in Gaborone, Botswana over a weekend in August 2022. The presenation of Global JazzWomen Festival was a joint effort between partnering organizations, under the auspices of the US-based non-profit, REVA, Inc., and the artistic directors Jessica and Tony Jones. This grassroots coalition consists of JCFI Mamelodi - an arts service provider in South Africa, led by Sibongile Buda, and BOSJE and Kingdom Arts Academy - music organizations from Gaborone, Botswana, headed by Akhutleleng Kekwaletswe. Each year the core organizers partner with a local organization, wherever the event takes place.
The aim of the gatherings in every community and country is to integrate the female and female-identifying community that has continued meeting over the past years online and provide a platform for musical exchange, support, learning and celebration of the female creative spirit. Musicians from Southern African countries have so far been in the focus, with specific instrumental workshops provided by renowned musicians.
